Death Star Descends Upon Detroit

The Death Star and Blacks: Black on the outside, concentrated, rust-belt-city-destroying power on the inside

No wonder Schwartz acts like an aggrieved lowlife once given a position of power.

I don't think we'll be winning the "Least Racist Blog on the Internet" award this year.

no, the death star will NOT be featured blowing up any famous new york structures if the packers beat the giants this weekend.
but seriously, thursdays victory over the lions deserves praise. the lions strategies of 1. kill as much clock on offense, 2. interfere every packers receiver possible on every play and 3. add to their league-leading personal foul tally all failed miserably against a patient, poised packers team.
for those curious, mike neal played 27 snaps defensively, up from 16 last week and more than wilson (22) and wynn (18). with walden's status uncertain, it'll be nice to involve neal more and rely less on pickett and raji.
this week's giants game will probably be the toughest remaining test of the season. their front seven will test a weak packers offensive line that'll probably be missing sitton, but bradshaw either missing this game or being limited in it would let the defense ravage turnover machine eli.
i'd expect the packers to be 7+ point favorites in every game after that. the raiders pass rush is concerning, but they didnt really come close to scoring a touchdown at home against the bears yesterday. hopefully the team doesn't sleep through the kc game. we've seen how clueless the bears offense is without cutler and you'd better believe even the backups want to stomp detroit and their playoff hopes on new years day.
if the packers can beat the giants, they have a very winnable path to 16-0 beyond that.
I agree that the Giants game is the toughest game left on the schedule, and it's probably the biggest challenge they will have faced all season.
That said, there are a few things that should make packers fans feel more comfortable. First, the Packers absolutely throatfucked the Giants last year. That was the game that really sparked the Packers. Second, the Packers are on a long week to prepare. Third, the Giants are on a short week. Effectively, the Packers are coming off a bye week in comparison to the Giants.
I believe the Packers clinch the division with a win. They may even clinch a postseason bye. I'm undecided if that's good for the Packers or not. The bye is, but clinching this early may not be As fun as it is to be enjoying this amazing run, I think the only thing that really matters in the next 5 games is staying healthy.
Oh, and that just happened to the Giants.
A win and a loss by detroit clinches the division. I don't know what the tiebreaker is like with Dallas, but a win and losses by NO and Dallas should clinch a bye.
And the Giants just got ripped to shreds by a team very similar to the Packers.
after watching last night's game, I've already changed my tune. My biggest fear is now sleeping through the Oakland game and somehow losing that.
the giants look cooked, their secondary injuries finally caught up with them and their offense looked punchless last night against a soft saints defense. if osi and bradshaw are still sidelined come sunday, they're in trouble. I still worry about tough road games, rodgers getting hurt, etc... but not nearly as much now.
also, thank god the packers won their opening game against the saints, pretty glad they'll at least get to play those fuckers outdoors at home in the playoffs.
and can someone explain domestic violence to me? first walden's jailed for a weekend and then he's let get go because apparently her story changed and walden's assault turned into self defense. i hope they aren't trying to cover anything up here....
That is correct that the Packers cannot unilaterally eliminate the Lions this weekend. The first tiebreaker after head-to-head record is divisional record. If the Packers lose out after beating the Giants and the Lions and Bears win out, all three contenders would have two divisional losses.
The second tiebreaker is record in common games. Because one of the Lions' losses came to the 49ers, an uncommon opponent, the Lions would have a better record in common games assuming the facts above. So, no, the Lions would have to lose to be eliminated this weekend. I guess that's a better way to put it. If the Lions do not beat the Saints on the road this weekend, they will be eliminated from the division title. If they lose to the Saints, the Packers win the division even if they lose out (assuming the Bears lose once). If the Packers lose out and the Lions win out after losing to the Saints, then the Packers will tie in divisional record and common games but will have a better conference record, which is the next tiebreaker. So the Lions have to win this weekend to win the division. I don't think they will.
The Bears would need to win every game and have the Packers lose out to win the division. The Packers hold every tiebreaker over the Bears. They cannot have a worse divisional record. Their record in common games cannot be worse than the Bears and, if they end up with the same record as the Bears in divisional and common games, then the Packers will have a better conference record. So, any Bears loss or any Packers win from here on out eliminates the Bears.
The Packers definitely clinch a bye with two more wins. That's all we know for sure with that.
I believe the 49ers would likely hold the tiebreaker over the Packers, so the Packers may need to win at least 4 more games to clinch home field throughout the playoffs (unless they only win 3 games and their two losses are to the Raiders and Chiefs - unlikely). The 49ers will probably be favored in every game they have left this season.
i hope they aren't trying to cover anything up here....
Disagree. I hope they cover up whatever happened. Kidding, sort of.
They've already created enough uncertainty that a 2011 suspension would seem unlikely. If the accuser has changed her story, that indicates to me that no charges are going to be filed. There will be no evidence without her cooperation. So why would Walden get hit with a suspension? I like how this has turned out.
Is it a cover-up? Not really. I would think either (i) Walden really didn't do anything wrong (or did less wrong than people assume when they hear news like this) or (ii) the accuser realized how much money Walden was going to lose if he was charged - I would think millions of dollars in the long-run. Even though this is not his wife, I would imagine that she is someone who has some kind of continuing connection to Walden. She would likely benefit from him being rich instead of poor the rest of his life. That's not really a cover-up as far as I'm concerned.
I doubt the 49ers will be favored to beat the steelers, even though they play that game in SF.
Presently, the Packers can afford to lose up to 2 games against AFC opponents and basically no more more than one total loss to NFC opponents this season to hold the tiebreaker for home field over the niners.
A niner loss to an NFC opponent basically fucks their chances at home field. If I could guess, the niners will end up having played 3, maybe four games against playoff-bound teams (one of the lions/giants can make it) and will probably have losses to all of those teams aside from the aforementioned bubble teams (again, if they make it).
basically what I'm trying to say is the niners are the 2010 bears with a worse offense, much worse division and better record.
Does anybody else think that Jim Schwartz looks like one of those guys whose head is just a little bit too big for the rest of his body?
