Ah, Mr. Gomez. You were benched in favor of a 40 year old DH, but you still found a way to meet your maker. Granted, this is 3 months later than expected, but Mr.June HIAWDA arrives with these illustrious June splits:
54 AB, .167 BA, .211 OBP,.296 SLG, for an ever-impressive .507 OPS. Put it this way: all 5 pitchers in the rotation had an OPS over 120 points higher than Gomez. Here's to another month of 2 strike bunt attempts from this incredibly terrible baseball player.

This motherfucker really irritates me. Granted, it's not really Melvin's fault that Gomez was all we could get for Hardy. We were handcuffed by Hardy's terrible season and propensity to be a huge twat. But let's be real here: Carlos Gomez has never been a good prospect. We would have been better off asking for Beiker Graterol.
In 4 minor league seasons, Gomez never amassed an OPS higher than 772. His career minor league OPS is .728. In the 2 seasons he stole a combined 104 bases, he was caught 37 fucking times, roughly 36% of the time. That's terrible. He's never waked more than 32 times, and that was in Low A ball. He also struck out 88 times that year. His only semi-decent year, in AA, he hit .281, with a .349 OBP, but struck out 97 times in 430 ABs, walked just 27 times, and slugged just .423. He was called up after 140 ABs in AAA the next year, where he somehow had a .363 OBP. Since then, he's had a .630 OPS in 3 1/2 ML seasons.
It's baffling how many times a player like Gomez is drafted, pimped, and promoted based on the way he looks in spandex, regardless of how embarrassingly terrible he is at playing baseball.
I know I said drafted above, but Gomez was signed right out of the DR by the Mets. Same difference.
