Weekend Gambler: September 19-20

Current Tally: Bub is 2-4, Condescendy is 4-2

Saturday, September 19
USC @ Washington +20
This is just incorrect. USC is starting a freshman quarterback against a team coached by its former offensive coordinator on the road. Jake Locker is a great QB for Washington and should show up the frosh for USC.

Florida St. @ BYU -7
Going back to the mormon well.

California @ Minnesota +20
Minnesota is opening its new stadium this weekend, that's gotta be worth at least a few points.

Sunday, September 20
Baltimore +3 @
San Diego
San Diego frankly didn't look that great against Oakland Monday night and LT is hurt. Baltimore's defense is outstanding and should give the Chargers problems all day.

Arizona @ Jacksonville -3
Arizona still sucks. No way this game would be even odds on a neutral field.

Cincinnati + 9.5 @ Green Bay
Cincinnati's defense is actually pretty good. 9.5 is just a lot of points for one team to be giving up.

I like your BYU pick this time. USC is going to win by 40, sorry.

Here are my picks for this week:

Tennessee (-6.5) over Houston. I seldom take Stash Fischer's team to cover because the guy is such a conservative coach who loves field goals and the prevent defense, but Tennessee at home is at least 2field goals and a safety better than Houston.

Minnesota (-9.5) over Detroit. This is a very bad matchup for Matthew Stafford. Minnesota won't let them run, and Stafford throwing 30 times means at least 3 turnovers for Detroit. Huge spread but I think Minnesota's defense is going to score 14 points. I'm pulling for the Lions, but it's just not going to be their week.

New England (-3.5) over the Jets. Again, rookie quarterback facing first real challenge. I'm still bullish on the Patriots.

Jacksonville (-3.0) over Arizona. Agree with Bub.

Baltimore (+3.5) over San Diego. Agree with Bub again. Gamblers, did we forget Baltimore was the 2nd best team in the NFL last year? They're the best team in football at covering spreads.

Seattle (+1.5) over San Francisco. Seattle is simply the better team, even on the road. SF's performance against Arizona in week 1 is overblown because Arizona sucks.

Got the Bub to put his money where his mouth is on SD/Baltimore. Baltimore let KC score 24 with a back-up QB, you've gotta bet the home team here...

A very impressive saturday for the Bub, almost the exact inverse of last weekend. That bodes very well for the Packers, who the Bub bet against this week. Nice work, TB.

I have changed my pick from the Patriots to the Steelers (-2.5) over the Bears. That pick is self explanatory. The Patriots are playing without Wes Welker, their best offensive player.
