Priceless. All that was missing was the Rocky IV training music.

Anybody else think that guy looked like me dressed up like Jeff Kent?

I was actually going to say it looks like an if-they-mated between Old Hoss and Keith Hernandez. Or like Andy Bernard from The Office wearing a fake mustache.

I'm surprised to come here at 10 AM today and see nary a post on the Warriors. Are we collectively too dismayed to share our thoughts with the group? I'll start - this is the most disappointing thing to happen to basketball in Milwaukee since the Ray-Allen-for-three-months-of-Gary-Payton trade.

Devastating. Simply devastating. No other comments. Well, I guess I've got one - Jimmy Butler.

Devastating is probably the appropriate term. I could care less about the loss, really. Look, I'm a huge fan of this team and am very disappointed they will be wounded yet again for the stretch run, but my devastation is for DJ and his last moments as a college basketball player. He deserved better.

I don't know the guy personally, and it's far from career threatening, but how can you not feel awful for the kid. He was one of the most exciting players I've watched at MU. He deserved to lead this very talented and close bunch into a potential deap tournament run. What's worse personally for him is that he got cheated out of the chance to be a late draft pick or latch on to an NBA squad and make a living. I really hope it happens in the future because I think he deserves it.

Serious injuries, especially the ill timing of one such as DJ's, are what is most frustrating about being a sports fan [oh hi, Mr. Sheets.) Football it is par for the course, but when it happens in basketball or baseball it just feels like a knee to the balls. It's a sickening feeling when any talented college athlete suffers a serious injury, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, no matter how much animosity I feel towards him/her. [except Carlos Zambrano]

Here's to a speedy recovery and to a successful pro career, DJ. Thanks for the memories and the countless "how the fuck did he do that" moments.

Maurice, get that glock cocked. You're in.

Can't say it any better myself.

And for all of us, including myself, who get upset when someone tries to turn pro, keep in mind that DJ cost himself millions and millions of dollars by not going and being drafted in the second round in the 2006 draft. You feel awful.

And this will devastate the team. They were such a closely nit group, one with no depth (considering Jimmy Butler a starter), and one who relied heavily on DJ to set the pace of a game.

Maybe the career isn't over. If Kyle McAlarney can get a dope redshirt, all three of the guards should be able to get a redshirt (DJ in 2009, McTurnover in 2007, and Matthews in 2005). Probably not, eh?

Turns out macalarney doesn't have a red shirt after all.

It was brought to my attention that the Brewers are entertaining thoughts of starting Suppan in the opener at SF. This can't be true, can it? Throwing in the towel in the very first game is kind of sad. Strike that, it's completely pathetic.

Notre Dame shooting guard Luke Zeller wrapped up his fourth consecutive not-Big East Player of the Year award on Saturday. He follows in the footsteps of previous multi-NBEPOY winners Jordan Cornette and the Ross twins. Runner up Zach Hillesland was too busy sucking ass to be reached for comment. Golden Globe nominee and total fucking pussy Hasheem Thabeet passed on his hearty congratulaions to Zeller.

I don't know why when a fouled player fakes an injury, the opposing team doesn't get to pick who has to shoot the freethrow. Either that, or the rule should be that the fouled player who doesn't shoot a freethrow can't come back for the rest of the half. That fucking Nancy missed what, 4 seconds of the game?

Fantasy Draft question...can we move it from the 28th of March? I have a bowling tournament I have to be at that day and the next...

At 12:59 PM, March 02, 2009, Blogger Brew City Bub said...

I'm 100% fine with moving the date under the explicit understanding that finding a date and time that works for 12 people will be nothing short of an absolute statistical anomaly.

At 7:49 PM, March 03, 2009, Anonymous $lash said...

I completely agree, BCB. 2 people have already expressed concerns about the 28th. Does anyone have a problem with March 14-15? If not, I'll change the date to that weekend.

At 8:24 AM, March 04, 2009, Blogger Brew City Bub said...

Maybe it's just personal preference, but I feel like Sundays typically have fewer conflicts than Saturdays, especially sunday evening to late evening.

People have expressed concerns about the 28th or the weekend of the 28th? What about that Sunday instead of Saturday?

I'd rather take my laptop with me on the weekend of the 21st than draft 3 weeks before the season starts.

What about the weekend of April 4?

I'd prefer to draft on a weekend, but if you guys need to do it during the week then I guess I'm fine with that.

Allahu Akbar! They've added minor leaguers with no service time to the draft pool. No grabbing Matt Wieters for the price of a waiver spot this year!

The saga continues, Wu Tang! Wu Tang!

At 10:39 AM, March 04, 2009, Blogger local inebriated funny man said...

Are you sure its that way for all minor leaguers? Wieters is a lot like Longoria, who I drafted, was last year going into opening day. They were both anointed starters before logging a game, and therefore Yahoo had to list them in the player pool.

I hope you're right because that would be much better for the draft. But something tells me you might be jumping the gun.

At 11:30 AM, March 04, 2009, Blogger Brew City Bub said...

No, I checked several names - Neftali Perez, Tommy Hanson, Lars Anderson, and Trevor Cahill are all there as well without any service time. It's not that way for all minor leaguers (for instance, Pedro Alvarez isn't there), but I recall last year neither Edinson Volquez nor Johnny Cueto were available, yet both were in the rotation at the start of the 2008 season.

At 1:42 PM, March 04, 2009, Anonymous $lash said...

Well, the 21st is the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, but by Sunday afternoon, most of us will have already watched apx. 35 hours of basketball. If Carlson is available, and nobody else has a conflict, I'd prefer that weekend to 3 weeks before the season starts as well. March 22... any conflicts?

Jesus. Sorry to hear that LIFM. That really sucks. If I was down there, we'd be at the Atlanta version of Y Not II at this very moment.

Again, I don't understand why we don't do a weekday night. No one I know does anything on weekday nights. 8pm on a wednesday night . . . who wouldn't be available for that?

That's my last comment on the matter. Please consider.

$lash, just arbitrarily pick a time - weeknight, Sunday, I don't care. Just start going for days and see who complains. If we can keep it to 1-2 no-shows, we should consider it a success.

I bowl Weds and Fri nights and the weekend of the 28th aren't good...other than that, I'm good. Sorry LIFM about the job, time to get a job up here in the D and scream out your window at the residents.

You may have noticed that the draft remains scheduled for Saturday March 28 at 1:30 p.m.(central). Unfortunately, that's because no other times are available. I was hoping yahoo might add more slots, but it looks like they're not going to. The weekend of the 21-22 is full unless everyone can agree to begin at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday morning or 8:45 on Sunday morning. Week nights are completely filled, unless we're all agreeable to a 10:00 p.m.(central) start time, which I'm sure we're not. Remaining open slots include: Friday March 27 - most slots, Saturday March 28 - most slots, Sunday March 29 - most slots. There is also availability this coming weekend, but I'd imagine that's going to fill up very quickly in the coming days, and none of us are really prepared yet anyway.

If you can't draft on the 28th and/or have problems with other days, please post those concerns on the message board in the league, even if you've already posted them here.

Is MU beating St. John's today? My guess (at the Garden, talk about home court) is yes, but slightly. Wes and Lazar have to command more shots and get Jerel to settle back down.

Trying to catch up on the sports I've missed in the last week. Here's what I've got.

1) Gambling on the underdogs at the WBC would have been good bet. With the Dominicans already eliminated, we know that there is an awful lot of luck that goes into this, and no team should have odds like the US and DR got.

2) MU lost to the Cuse. Ugh. MU lost a recruit to the Cuse. Double Ugh. Good bounceback win today to get some momentum heading into next week. Stopped the tailspin. Jimmy Butler.

3) There's pretty much no way I'm going to be able to do fantasy rankings. BCB, you got some time to do them? I can pitch in when needed but can't do anything close to all of them.

We need to start some Brewers posts here fellas. The season has almost started and we've shown little love.

At 5:15 PM, March 11, 2009, Blogger Brew City Bub said...

I can get some rankings together. They won't be pretty, but I can start crankin on them over the next week. Any chance you can do starting pitchers, Condy? I think I can cover the rest.

WBC? What is that? haha! Has any men's sporting event ever been so trivialized (out of the big three of baseball, football and basketball of course)?

Heineken Light is still good.
