Small ball at its finest

The only reason to EVER bunt...

The Bub, your team is awful. I'll trade you Hafner for Berkman if you're still into that whole getting ripped off thing. Jay Bruce is fantasy baseball manna! Thanks to whoever decided to drop him in late April...

Keep 'em coming, Buzz "B!" Williams

For those who were unaware and misled by his name, Buzz "B!" Williams is actually a white guy. He won't be hard to miss on MU's sidelines because he's going to be the only white guy on the bench. Thank God. After showing Dan Fitzgerald and Christopher Scottspherson the door, thus cleaning the house of terrible white basketball players, B! has signed/secured previous commitments from four 6'7" black guys (and one 6'10" black ogre). After poor recruiting classes since the 2005 Matthews-McNeal-James class, B! has what is starting to look like a very good 2009 class in place. Today, Jeronne Maymon (pictured above) declared his intent to play at MU. Maymon and this guy, are both top-100 players according to scout.com, currently ranked 58th and 83rd, respectively. Tom Crean had not brought in a top-100 player since the 2005 class, so this is certainly a good sign. Some of this has to do with the lure of immediate playing time for members of the 2009 class, but B! deserves credit. He is widely considered to be a superior recruiter, which is why he was on Crean's coaching staff in the first place.

Buzz "B!" Williams has at least 3 more scholarships to offer 2009 recruits, and he suddenly has a team that looks to have some frontcourt ability. 6 other top-100 and at least a dozen other three-star players in the 2009 class list interest in MU. It's a good bet that MU will land a good point guard from the 2009 class to complement these other recruits. MU is currently in the mix on 3 of the top 10 or so point guards in the 2009 class and can offer a top-notch point guard a lot of playing time as a freshman. There has been much relief at MU from what looked like it could be a disaster a month ago when Crean unexpectedly left.

May 23-25 Rays v. O's

After a 3-3 roadtrip to St. Louis and Oakland, the Rays come home for 10 and look to regain their winning form. With the Orioles, Rangers and White Sox on the slate, it's time to put some distance between themselves and the bottom of the AL East.

Friday, 6:10 CST
Matt Garza vs. Jeremy Guthrie

Saturday, 5:10 CST
Edwin Jackson vs. Steve "Yup, I'm still in the league and, you guessed it, on the Orioles" Trachsel

Sunday, 12:40 CST
Jamie Shields vs. Daniel "Yahoo insists I now have elite control" Cabrera

Those are some favorable matchups, save for perhaps tonight's game. But I do think Garza is going to turn the corner soon.

Ryan Braun signed through 2015

Details of deal (pictured above) to be announced shortly. Supposedly the terms will blow the Tulowitzki and Longoria deals out of the water.

Baseball trivia

Baseball trivia time. Put the following events in the correct order in which they occurred:

Blue Jays release Frank Thomas

“Our best opportunity is to put other guys in the lineup at this point,” Ricciardi said.

Blue Jays in search of right-handed DH

"The problem for the Jays is they don’t have an experienced right-handed bat..."

Blue Jays acquire OF Mench from Rangers

"The Blue Jays gave the Rangers cash for Mench, who was with Triple-A Oklahoma after failing to make the club as a non-roster invitee in spring training."

Oh wait, they already are in order! Sweet Jesus.

I'm a Worthless Dick. When will they fire me?

Look, I know it's fairly early and I know that our offense can't possibly be this bad and Yost is not really to blame for the Brewers piss-poor performance, but if this slide continues, the man needs to get shit canned. I'm pretty sure none of his players have any respect for him and he sure isn't motivating anybody anymore; it's eerily similar to the Bucks' situation out of the gates this year (and yes, I know nobody gives a shit about the NBA).
Anyway, what is everybody's guess on when Yost is gets ousted? I'm going to go with a bit of a gamble and say June 5 after a tough homestand fails to get us back on track and we sit at 6-7 games below .500. What does everyone else think?

Brewers at Astros May 2-4

(not pictured - sexy Gabe)

Friday May 2nd, 7:05
Chuck V vs. Roy Oswalt

Saturday May 3rd, 6:05
Manuel Parra vs. Brandon Backe

Sunday May 4th, 1:05
Ben Sheets vs. Chris Sampson

The asstros are a bad team, but Enron Minute Field has always been a house of horrors for the Crew. Then again, you literally can say that about just about every park in major league baseball. This year, however, the Brewers have the right-handed heavy lineup to park balls 247 feet into the Crawford boxes in left. They're even more right heavy than the Astros.
