It's Deadline Day - Brewers vs. Mets Thread

Open threat to discuss the trades that have already happened and those that will happen today.

Will the Brewers acquire any more players? What do they have to trade if they want to acquire another arm or bat? Will the Cubs add anyone at the 5 positions they currently are lacking? How much of the market on catching prospects will the Rangers corner? Do the Yankees even think about trading any of their top three pitching prospects? Can the Brewers pull the trigger on the currently under-the-radar Darrin Erstad trade? What about the rest of the NL Central? Can any of those teams start to rebuild, or are they going to Littlefield around with their hands in their pockets?

So many questions that will be answered in the next 12 hours.

Meanwhile, the Brewers take on the best team in the NL, the Mets. Now is a perfect time to get some wind under the sails, as the pressure finally is off. They're not expected to win, so maybe they can loosen up and stop pissing games away.

Brewers at Cardinals 7/27-7/29

Fri, Jul 27 7:10 pm - C. Vargas vs. M. Maroth
Sat, Jul 28 12:10 pm - M. Parra vs. B. Thompson
Sat, Jul 28 7:10 pm - C. Capuano vs. A. Reyes
Sun, Jul 29 1:15 pm - Y. Gallardo vs. K. Wells

Manny Parra makes his first major league start on Saturday afternoon due to the doubleheader and the Brewers not having a day off since the all-star break. That's 18 games in 17 days. From here out, they go back to a more regular schedule with one day off per week.

Oh, by the way, Braun's OPS now exceeds Fielder's by 100 points. Braun now has 238 PA. He needs 502 to qualify for the batting title. That's 4.4 PA/brewers game for the rest of the year. In other words, he's not going to qualify. If the season ended today and he qualifed, he'd win the NL title by 8 points over Chipper Jones. I know even discussing a batting title sounds lofty, but if Braun continues at his present pace, he'll definitely get some MVP attention. He's at about the halfway point in his major league season. If you double his first half, he'd finish the season hitting .352/.399/.676, with 35 HR, 32 2b, 90 RBI, 34 BB, and 20 steals. Here are the numbers from Pujols 2005 MVP season: .330/.430/.609, with 41 HR, 38 2b, 117 RBIs, 97 BB, and 16 SB. The only notable differences between the two are the walk totals and Braun's massive genitals.

Brewers at Reds 7/23-7/26

Mon, Jul 23 6:10 pm - C. Capuano vs. A. Harang
Tue, Jul 24 6:10 pm - Y. Gallardo vs. M. Belisle
Wed, Jul 25 6:10 pm - J. Suppan vs. K. Lohse
Thu, Jul 26 11:35 am - D. Bush vs. B. Livingston

There's no day off for the Crewers this week with the 4 gamer in the Dirtti Natti. Braun finally got some love on the front page of yahoo!'s mlb page today. With Hunter Pence spraining his wrist while effeminately waiving to the hunky servicemen in the crowd over the weekend, sports writers have finally started paying more attention to the machismo-soaked Braun. It's about f-ing time, you Omar Vizquel/Ryan Theriot/David Eckstein loving a-shots.

Most importantly, here's what our Cardinals are up to this week.

Tue, Jul 24 7:10 pm - K. Wells vs. C. Zambrano
Wed, Jul 25 7:10 pm - A. Wainwright vs. T. Lilly
Thu, Jul 26 7:10 pm - B. Looper vs. J. Marquis

Giants vs. Brewers 7/20-22

7/20/07 - N. Lowry vs. J. Suppan

7/21/07 - T. Lincecum vs. D. Bush

7/22/07 - B. Zito vs. C. Vargas

The Giants are just terrible right now, I won't make predictions, but taking 2/3 fromt these guys would be disappointing. Oh, I guess I'll go ahead and say the obvious: nice stache, douche.

Despite the fact that the Bub is "Less Now" than VCRs and cream soda (seriously, I can't watch ESPN anymore) it's time to get back to baseball. I have a good feeling about this series, I just hope we don't have to rely on Mench and Jenkins to produce our runs again. Yost pulled Suppan after he gave up one hit in the 7th inning of Sunday's game; one can only hope that this won't be a rare occurrence from here on out. I won't make any predictions on the series, but I am optimistic given the pitchers we are facing.

A Fallen Hero

I can't believe He-Man would hit for the other team. However, after reading this:

http://www.slate.com/id/2141626/

and watching this with a discerning eye:

...my biggest fears seem to be confirmed.

Just a thought

This could be devastating if you guys ever find your way back down here for a Bravos game:

Hi, I'm a Worthless Dick

That's right, the entire fucking team. You just lost 5 of 7 to the two worst teams in the National League. Munch on E's nutsack.

Brewers @ Nationals, July 6-8

I'm not taking the time to list out the pitchers. This series should be an afterthought. The team should expect to sweep. 2 of 3 is the minimum acceptable result. If the Cubs get any closer, existence as we know it will become insufferable.

07/02 - J. Suppan vs. J. Van Benschoten. WP C. Villanueva (6-0), 4 IP, 2 hits, and 5K.

07/03 - C. Capuano vs. S. Youman

07/04 - C. Vargas vs. I. Snell

07/05 - B. Sheets vs. T. Gorzelanny

For those of you who are stuck at work this week, a few afternoon games might make the day go a bit quicker. Tuesday and Wednesday's games are 3:05 pm starts and Thursday's game is at 11:35 am. The Chubs are playing the Nationals, so the Brewers have to be thinking sweep here, but I'm thinking we'll only pull off three wins.

Hi, I'm a worthless dick.

Hi, I'm Dave Bush. I was out-dueled by Jason Marquis on Sunday. I'm a fucking mental case. I'm the 7th best starter on the team. Even Claudio Vargas is better than me. Guess what though! I start every 5th game. Wow, you Brewers fans sure are lucky. You have me out there to remind you of the good old days when Wes Obermueller took the hill every 6th night. Anyhow, there's so much action in my starts that even you fans with ADD will be too nervous to take your eyes off the diamond for even a second. I love giving up 4 runs in the first 5 2/3 innings of every game I start. It makes things more interesting. Move over to the bullpen Yo, Dave Boo's still in town!

Four Brewers make the All-Star Team

I generally do not care about the all star game. I'm never happy to see our pitchers in the game (thankfully, we've rarely had pitchers worthy of selection), but I'm still excited. The Brewers haven't had four all stars since Brew City Bub has been alive. We haven't had a legit all star starter since 1987. Hardy didn't deserve the spot, but I could care less. If Atlanta or Florida had the best record in the NL, Renteria and Ramirez would have spots. Also, Fielder will be competing in the home run derby, which means fans of the video below will see twenty to thirty such swings. America will fall in love with Fielder.
