No Cheating!
I've quoted the wrong number for the number of runs Cordero has allowed since coming to Milwaukee. It's five, not two. Don't get me wrong, that's still quite valuable, but I have a new question for you all. How many HITS has Cordero given up in 11 1/3 this season? Remember, no cheating.

Packers' Draft 2007: Who are these fuckin' guys?
Want to get everybody's thoughts on the selections so far. When they passed on Meachem and Bowe in the first round, I figured it was because the Randy Moss deal was a foregone conclusion. However, today we find out that Moss will, in fact, be headed to New England. Harrell is coming off a torn bicep, but apparently would have been a top ten guy if healthy. Jackson (RB) and Clowney (WR, V. Tech) were platoon players in college. Jones (WR, SJSU) apparently took plays off and I know nothing about the OT we drafted. I am excited about the safety, but we already have a hard-hitting tweener safety that can't cover in Collins. But hey, we've got three consecutive picks in the sixth round. Will Brett Favre call a press conference tomorrow to announce his retirement? I understand the philosophy has been to draft a bunch of guys and keep the ones that work out, but what happens when you draft 14 Jamal Reynoldses? Ted Thompson bought himself a margin of safety with last year's draft, but he'll be on a short leash if this year's crew underperforms.

SLU hires Rick Majerus
This is mostly a self-serving post, but "Thick" Rick Majerus was announced as the new head coach of the Saint Louis University Billikens this afternoon. For those that don't know, Rick is an excellent coach and a talented male model.

As of April 26 . . .
The Brewers are 2nd in the majors in home runs, 3rd in slugging, 8th in OBP, and yet 9th in runs scored. Why? Oh, because once a game Bill Hall decides that since he's black, he must also be fast. However, he fails to realize that every time he tries to take an extra base, he gets out. I still don't hate Hall yet, and there are certainly others to blame for baserunning woes, but this, coupled with defensive ineptitude, is gonna cost the Brewers many wins this season.

Brewers @ Cubs, April 23-25
Monday: Claudio Vargas vs. Carlos Zambrano
Tuesday: Jeff Suppan vs. Rich Hill
Wednesday: Ben Sheets vs. Ted Lilly
We get their top three pitchers and Alfonso Soriano tonight. The Cubs have been far underperforming their Pythagorean to date, so they're due for a bounce back any day now. Color me concerned. I'll be at the game Wednesday, too, so any suggestions for getting on TV that don't involve the Abraham Lincoln are encouraged.

15-game Recap
Well the Brewers have had their ups and downs through the first 15 games of the season. All the starters have had three chances to take the mound, so it's a good time to compare their performances. What is most impressive about the pitching thus far is that the Brewers lead the majors in strikeouts to walks ratio and walks per nine innings. When the hell has that ever happened? This despite have the 4th worst ERA in the NL. So at least they're making the other team hit the ball. Unfortunately, our supposed number 1 starter has looked the worst of the 5 starters so far. I don't like the fact that Sheets has pitched the most innings of anyone on the team, but only has the 7th most strikeouts. Don't get me wrong, he's still done alright, it's just that I have a feeling he's going to end up back on the DL any day now, because that's always were he goes when his numbers start to get shitty. With the exception of one inning against the Cubs by Bush, all the other starters have done well, and I've been especially surprised/impressed by Vargas. His massive strikeout totals have certainly made things easier on the defense.
The defense has been laughable at times and I hope it corrects itself soon before it really starts costing the team some games. Weeks' defense seems to have improved since last season, but Hall really needs to work on his centerfielding. Otherwise, the corner outfielders have done pretty well defensively, but the corner infielders could be better.
But I don't want to dwell on the negatives, because overall I think the team has been pretty impressive, especially Cordero and even Turnbow, despite his shaky performance today. The Jenkins and Mench platoon is performing well and Fielder has close to a .400 OBP. I'd like to see Gross and Gwynn get some more playing time too, which I'm sure they will during road interleague play. Although I'd like to see Hall move to 3rd base for some games too and sit Graffanino.
So what's your perspective of the season thus far?

Brewers @ Reds April 16 & 17
Monday, April 16 Capuano vs. Milton
Tuesday, April 17 Bush vs. Belisle
The Brewers are 2nd in the NL in slugging and home runs, and they face a guy notorious for susceptibility to both tonight in Milton. Lets just hope they put yesterday's game behind them.

This is a complete non sequitur, but . . .
It deserves to be archived on our blog. Do you recall a few years back when Martha Burke and her army of feministas protested the men-only rules at Augusta National? Well, the photo below represents the apex of those protests:

Brewers @ Cardinals, April 13-15
Friday: Let the rain fall down
Saturday: Cy Suppan vs. Kip Wells (6:10)
Sunday: Ben Sheets vs. Braden Looper (1:10)
The Cards receive their rings Friday night (along with current Brewer and 07 Hendy favorite Jeff Suppan) and summarily bring a knife to a bazooka fight pitting Reyes against Sheets. Has anybody looked at this lineup? or the rotation? I think this is the most overrated team in baseball. Lets review.
Wainright
Reyes
Wells
Looper
??????
Carpenter (DL)
Mulder (DL)
Eckstein
Taguci/duncan/edmonds
Pujols
Rolen
Preston Fucking Wilson
Taguci/duncan/edmonds
Molina
Miles
If this team doesn't heal up quickly (Rolen is starting tonight but has back problems; Edmonds' body is shot), even Pujols can't will them to win 75 games this year. This is very clearly a team on the wrong side of their peak and wandering dangerously close to the 'not-competing-or-rebuilding' netherregion of baseball. In a year or two this team may very well look like the Baltimore Orioles + Albert Pujols.

Brewers versus Marlins Series April 9-11th.
After going 0-7 against the Marlins last year, the Brewers will try their 2007 luck against the fish. With Suppan on the mound in game 1, expect that 7 game losing streak to come to a quick end.
Things to watch for: Miguel Cabrera is now a little over 400lbs. He absolutely powerfucks the ball all over the ballpark. With just about every other Marlin injured, the Brewers will be wise to pitch around Cabrera.
Who peed on the couch at the Lyon Estate?
Sometime last weekend, Opening Day weekend, someone peed on the couch at the Lyon Estate. "It stinks like aborted fetus death," acording to one Estate resident. Which one of you boners did this? The current residents of the Lyon Estate have one suspect right now. Identify yourself!

Dodgers Series, April 2-4
I figured we could centralize game discussion and such in threads series by series instead of by games and random posts this season. Yes, we're already two games into the season, but there has already been a bunch of infuriating shit taking place. Yes, I'm talking once again about the Brewers' baserunning and bunting. That double steal? Bunting with Corey Hart? Ned Yost is trying to get too cute with things and insert himself too much into the play on the field when, in reality, he should just let the team's talent speak for itself. If we see shit like we've seen tonight game in and game out, I'll stop attending games before they open the roof.
NBA Draft News: "Oden May Not Come Out!"
Monday, April 2, 2007
Miller Park, Milwaukee
I had a chance to get local NBA expert and psychopath Freeway's take on the upcoming NBA draft.
$lash: Who are the Bucks going to select in the draft this year?
Freeway: The Milwaukee Bucks have the third pick in the NBA draft.
$lash: Do you think they'll pick Oden if they get the #1 pick?
Freeway: ODEN MAY NOT COME OUT! If the Ohio State Buckeyes do not win the National Championship he may not come out!
$lash: What about Kevin Durrant?
Freeway: HE MAY NOT COME OUT!
$lash: Wow, who else may not come out?
Freeway: Brandon Rush. HE MAY NOT COME OUT!
$lash: (thumbs up)

Baseball Fever
So on the eve of opening day, I want you all to take a moment and think of any logo for any sports team at any point in time better than the old Brewer's ball and glove. Of course I am biased concerning this matter, but such a simple, timeless logo designed by none other than a fan, Tom Meindel, an Art History student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, cannot be beaten in my opinion. It's a crying shame the organization ever changed the design, but I guess its appearance during Sunday home games will suffice. Beyond that, I am jealous of all of you going to the game tomorrow, I am resorting to watching the game during class. Speaking of which, if you are desperate to watch a game while you are in say a night time class or one that's not on local TV, send me an instant message. If I am not watching it (depends on the day) you are more than welcome to use my MLB TV account to watch. I'll have the service through April and will provide the name and password for the account upon request.
