Marlins Series 5/31-6/3

5/31 Untermueller vs. Vargas. WP Villanueva (4-0), LP Lindstrom (0-2). S Cordero (19)

6/1 Olsen vs. Suppan

6/2 Kim vs. Capuano

6/3 Willis vs. Sheets

It's no mistake that these guys play well at home (19-9, best in the NL, tied in the AL), let's hope they keep it up against a mediocre-at-best NL opponent.

Yesterday's game was a relief, though I'm still waiting for the Brewers to score first in a game and lead the entire way. I can't remember the last game like that. Was it all the way back in the NYM series?

I remain optimistic if only because the rest of the division is dog shit. We're seeing Braun struggle a bit as expected. Like every other prospect the Brewers have called up, Braun will go through an adjustment period, which could take all season. Good breaking balls thrown at unexpected times will get young hitters like Braun. He'll have to start taking some more pitches to get into better counts and get more used to the increased velocity and movement.

Braun's development will be key with Dick Weeks on the DL and out indefinitely. These wrist problems for Weeks are looking more and more like a chronic injury. The Brewers will need Braun to hit at least as well as Weeks with the Counsell/TGraff platoon moving across the diamond.

On the mound, things have apparently been quite rough the past couple weeks. Turnbow has completely lost command of his breaking ball, meaning the 8th innings for the foreseeable future will be all buzzers and alarms. The Brewers have finally recalled Jose Capellan, who's been pitching out of the Nashville rotation. His stamina should be good, and he may slot right in as the mop-up guy. Capellan does not address the current problems with the late inning setup, though maybe he'll get some late inning chances.

Anyone watching the Cubs today? Apparently, Mike the Rapist Barrett and Big Z were yelling at each other in the dugout after another Zambrano meltdown on the mound. Anyone with some input entertain me.

Cubs look to drop 7 games back again. The Brewers are as well off now than they were when they were 24-10. 5 of the 6 worst teams in the NL right now are in the NL Central. With Chico pitching for the Nationals just about every other day, the NL Central could soon feature the 5 worst teams in the NL.

I just turned on the game and they showed a replay. This should be on ESPN all night, so anybody interested will be able to catch it at the TAP this evening. Zambrano spiked a bender in the dirt and somebody (johnson, maybe?) took third. Barrett tried to throw him out and missed the 3b and Johnson scored. Zambrano, the uncontrollable hothead that he is, started mouthing off to Barrett in the dugout and then attacked him. It looked like he was trying to grapple with him more than closed-fist punch him, but they had to be separated by teammates. This team is very close to done. That is far greater than anything the brewers could have done on the field this year. They may win by default, but the brewers stand a very good chance to win the division right now.

That was pure comedy. My God. "Why don't you check out the fucking scoreboard you fat Mexican, and the 13 fucking hits you've given up before you get in my face about a passed ball."

I lied - Zambrano cocked his arm back to throw a punch, but never connected.

Please tell me that was a direct quote from Barrett.

The Cubs are imploding before our eyes. I was thinking it would take at least half the season before this happened. Great success!

I'm sick of hearing the announcers talk about how humid air somehow makes it harder for the ball to travel, when in fact it's the exact opposite. Water vapor is less dense than nitrogen and oxygen, hence humid air is less dense than dry air. Less dense air means less friction, which is why balls fly so much farther at Coors Field. I'm emailing the booth.

From Yahoo!:

"In the fourth inning, rain leaked through the closed Miller Park roof and forced a few fans to vacate their seats in the second level behind home plate."

Yeah, no, it's cool. Just go ahead and put that shit on the interwebs. It's actually a point of pride. No worries.

Cubs fans are littering the field with trash as I type this, angry over THE CORRECT CALL. You stay classy, Chicago. Their run differential may not suggest this, but they are, in fact, done. Home run, Andruw Jones. Please Milwaukee, please don't fuck this up.

Gallardo's final line from Friday:
7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K

Capellan's final line from today:
2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 1 K

It's time to bring up Gallardo and stick a fork in this division race. It's also time for me to do my homework instead of trolling the internet for useless baseball data.
