Post season prediction challenge and Awards Voting

I must have a whole shitload to do for tomorrow because I can't think about anything but our postseason prediction challenge and who I plan on voting for in the 2nd Annual BCS postseason awards. For the postseason, we'll do 1 point for the DS, 2 for the CS, and 4 for the WS. Winner receives a 40 of PBR. As for Post-season awards, you'll be voting for Most Outstanding Player, Least Outstanding Player, Walt Johnson (Cy Young), Jose Lima (Jose Lima), GM of the year, Not-GM of the year, and ROY for both leagues. Each first place vote gets 5 pts, 2nd gets 3 and third gets 1. Take your time on the awards, but get the playoff predictions in by Tuesday.

You also didn't name a world series mvp.

AL MOP
1. Mauer
2. Santana
3. Jeter
Note: I really like to compare players to the others at their respective positions. Mauer is ridiculously better than other catchers. And his stats are better than Jeter's. And he's a damn good defensive catcher. Similar to Mauer, Santana is far better than any other pitcher in baseball. Jeter had a great season, but wasn't all that much better than Tejada and Guillen. Though he is the best hitter in the league, Hafner missed a month, plays DH, and is not that much better than Ortiz and other top-notch DH's.

NL MOP
1. Pujols
2. Howard
3. Cabrera

AL Walter Johnson
1. Santana
2. Halladay
3. Liriano

NL Walter Johnson
1. Arroyo
2. Webb
3. Oswalt
Note: In that ballpark with that defense, Arroyo deserves remarkable credit for a low-3's ERA. I almost put Harang in the top-3 in this, one of the weakest Walter Johnson races ever. There are no dominating strikeout pitchers in the NL.

AL GM of the Year
1. Dave Dombrowski
2. Billy Bean
3. Brian Cashman

NL GM of the Year
1. Larry Beinfest
2. Kevin Towers
3. Josh Byrnes

AL ROY
1. Liriano
2. Papelbon
3. Weaver
Note: Verlander's late season fatigue cost him. He'd have been better off shutting it down in August. He's a very close fourth in the best ROY race of all time.

NL ROY
1. Hanley R.
2. Josh Johnson
3. Zimmerman
Note: Zimmerman prevents the Marlin sweep because of his gold glove defense. Uggla had a bad second half.

AL LOP
1. Angel Berroa
2. Rondell White
3. Edgardo Alfanzo
Note: The top two were a lock. I just don't like Alfanzo.

NL LOP
1. Clint Barmes
2. Brad Ausmus
3. Kevin Mench

AL Jose Lima
1. Russ Ortiz
2. Joel Pineiro
3. Runelvys Hernandez
Note: Ortiz continues to make an overwhelmingly strong claim for making The Big Three the Big Four.

NL Jose Lima
1. Ben Hendrickson
2. Dewon Brazelton
3. Jose Lima
Note: as long as The Big Three each throw a pitch in the league, they will dominate the top three.
If I had to vote for someone else, I'd add Russ Ortiz and Mark Mulder.

AL Not-GM of the year
1. Allard Baird
2. Mike Flanigan
3. J.P. Riccardi
Note: I love Riccardi but it just wasn't the season to go for broke. He's a tough addition because the AL GMs really did well this year.

NL Not-GM of the year
1. John Hendry
2. Wayne Krivsky
3. Brian Sabean
Note: Krivsky's late-season moves cost the team, which he so wisely built up, the playoffs. He simply cannot be forgiven for the Kearns/Lopez trade. Sabean is an idiot. Unlike the AL, this was a hotly contested crown.

First off all, this is not Jeff. Second, it is impossible for dice to predict a MVP winner. Nevertheless, I, The Dice, will use a number-generator to come up with the MVP.

Presumably, the MVP will come from the Yankees. Using the number generator, Jorge Posada will win the MVP.

I, The Dice, am the control group for the Crapshot Theory of playoff baseball. Everyone try to beat me.

First, let me edit a typo in my earlier post. I meant Billy Beane, certainly not Billy Bean. That is one of those mistakes you can't make.

I would also like to amend my AL MOP vote to include Travis Hafner and not Derek Jeter as the third place finisher. This isn't personal, it's just that Hafner's OPS is .200 points higher. Hafner was a shoe-in to win the MVP had he not gotten hurt. I generally put more emphasis on rate categories instead of cumulative ones. He dominated rate categories. I don't mind much that he missed about 100 AB. Those AB went to Ryan Garko, who kicked some ass. I also don't give much consideration to Jeter's stolen bases. They were nice and all, but I just don't care that much about SB. Hafner takes third. He's just so much better at the plate than Jeter, and shortstop is no longer a defensive position.

I think Skip unknowingly makes a good point about Dombrowski. For as great as the Tigers' turnaround has been this year, the club has made three inexcusable errors this season that cost them the division.

(1) Neifi Perez. Enough said.
(2) Sean Casey. Enough said.
(3) Todd Jones. He was a terrible signing, and he kept his closer role the entire year despite a clear and utter inability to record outs.

I amend my GM vote to be Beane, Chasman, Daniels. Unlike Skip, I will not put Dombrowski in the worst GM category. He's been good otherwise. I think he's a lot like Doug Melvin. He can rebuild a team, but he struggles to make the moves that put the team over the edge. He makes mistakes when he is forced to find "the missing piece."
