This afternoon features some good games. The one I'm obviously watching is the Reds/Cubs game, where Bronson Arroyo just hit an 0-2 pitch 420 feet to left field.

Nothing has changed with the Cubs. Opposing pitchers should still intentionally walk Lee and Ramirez every single time up. There is very little else of value in the Cubs lineup. Oh, and Glendon Rusch is their number-2 starter. This isn't to say the Cubs are really bad, because Lee and Ramirez are going to win them a lot of games. But, they did an awful job of filling holes this offseason.

Almost as funny as that Arroyo homer (which was REALLY FUNNY) was the Aurilia homer that followed it later in the inning. Can you believe it? I called LIFM and just laughed into the phone for both homers...

MAGIC NUMBER TIME......OK....so I figure the Brewer's magic number is 90.....if they win 90 more games, they have a dead nuts lock on the playoffs.....

Off topic,....last night was The Godfather III, where you get to hear fredo tell Michael, "I'm smart, I'm not stupid".....one of the best parts in the whole movie....along with when fredo gets whacked.

Did you see that Hendry actually found a way to get his contract extended the other day? Exactly what has he done to help this team? Even if he did bring in both lee and ramirez (did he???) the team is dogshit. Prepare for a minimum of five years of dominance over the northsiders, boys.

Hendry is a poor GM, but not the worst in the league. He did indeed bring in both Lee and Ramirez. With the Cubs expected to spend upwards of $50 million on free agents this next winter, I would never suggest that the Brewers will dominate the Cubs for years to come. As much as I hate the Cubs, I have to be realistic. I fully stand by the comment I made 3 years ago . . . the Cubs have grown in polularity to a point that the Red Sox were at. They now have the resources (because they were bad for so long) that they will spend and spend until they eventually win the world series. The longer they go without winning, the more polular they will be. It's so fucked up! Given that Hendry does not really know what to do with his wealth, I share in your happiness over the contract. However, I don't think the Cubs are going to be that bad with or without him.

Brewers-Out-On-Basepaths Meter:
2 trying to take an extra base, 1 straight caught stealing.

Positive Effects of Aggressive Baserunning:
1 Stolen base, 0 extra bases taken.

Current Efficiency: 25%
Minimum Acceptable Efficiency: 77%

I will continue to keep track of this, but I am really going to need people's help, especially for games not broadcast in Milwaukee.

Wise looked really good in the top of the eighth. He worked through Bay, meaning that the 8th was the higher leverage situation over the 7th or 9th.

Jenkins' AB to lead off the bottom of the eighth was excellent. 10 tough pitches from a lefty specialist, and Jenkins draws a walk.

There has been some good, not great, hitting by the Brewers in this game, even though the results have been lacking. In general, the Brewers have been patient this series. We all know that this patience comes in bunches when you're dealing with the Brewers. My best guess is that the Brewers continue to hit well until they face a soft-tossing sinkerballing righty, after which they will hit like shit for 14 games. Just a guess, but a calculated one.

Bringing in Turnbow for the third straight day to start the year. Ballsy, but it works.

Go Brew Wars!

Damnit, I really wish I could have seen this game. Did Ohka actually pitch well??? I missed my Prince's first hit ;) Then again, it looks like I would have had yet another heart attack watching that ass clown pitch in the 9th. Why can't it ever be easy?!?!?

Stupid MLB package decided to show four hockey games and the same damn Cardinals game that was already on ESPN instead of showing the Brewers game.
