Brewers April 4th Gameday
Alright folks, direct all comments about the game against the Pirates in this thread. We got Chris Capuano facing off against our old friend Vamp Santos. Unfortunately, it is a night game and it's early in the year, so Vamp figures to pitch really well tonight. Thoughts? Predictions?
Also worth noting for some of you...there is a free preview of the MLB Extra Innings package this week. So if you live out of town, have a digital cable box, and want to watch the Crew in action, you can. I will be enjoying the White Sox/Indians game on there this afternoon and the Twins/Blue Jays game tonight. I highly recommend both games in addition to the Brewers game.

what channel are those games on?
channels 880-889. Get on it now, the Bad Guys are beating the Good Guys/Us on channel 889.
It's 7:15 and I've already muted the TV for the rest of the season. Da Ron Sutton did it this time, talking about Sean Casey, Tim Tracy, and all the great work the Pirates have done this offseason upgrading the team chemistry. It's bad enough that the Brewers give up two shit runs in the first inning, I don't need to hear Sutton jack off the Pirates organization right now.
it's so nice to be playing in the NL and having a guy like Victor Santos bat against your team at least twice in one game...
jeez prince fielder...
Things started to head downhill for the Vamp in the 5th...suprise, suprise. Poor little Prince. Geez, Jimmy, how are you not in love with Koskie???...he's looked really patient at the plate tonight. I guess I should stop badmouthing Gabe Gross now.
EFF Capellan...and DOUBLE EFF the jackass moron who thought it would be a good idea to move the right field wall in. DAMNIT!
Good to see Fielder had his first AB on the season without striking out tonight. He's gonna be a 3TO dynamo if he keeps this up, Jimii. Then again, if he keeps this up, over 500 AB's he'll strike out about 430 times. ha.
Good win Crew. 2-0, next stop: 162-0
make that 173-0
A couple points worth making here:
1) If Brady Clark does not stop trying to take second base, he should honestly be benched in favor of Hall or Hart in center. This just needs to stop. The Brewers outs on the basepaths count is now up to 2 on the year.
2) Fielder is really having trouble. I'm not worried because the problem is obvious. Fielder is trying to hit every pitch 600 feet. He needs to just settle down, take a pitch or two, and then take a calm swing. His natural power will take the ball far enough, he doesn't need to swing that hard. He has earned a well-deserved day off tomorrow. I hope to see Corey Hart take 1B against Zach Duke, and I don't care if giving Fielder the day off may mess with his confidence.
3) The biggest reason I thought the Brewers would be better this year is because of the bench. Take the 100+ high-leverage ABs that went to Chris Magruder and give them to a Gabe Gross/Corey Hart platoon, and you've got yourself at least 2 more wins. Tonight's game may have been an example of this, as Gross obviously played a huge role in the victory.
4) I do like Corey Koskie. He was always the most patient and one of the most powerful hitters in the Twins' lineup. Do I like him more than Branyan? No. Do I like him more than Hall? Yes.
5) Dan Kolb looked really bad tonight. Yost would be wise to realize that Kolb is not at a point right now where he should be in high-leverage game situations. For as bad as Capellan looked, Kolb was twice as bad IMO. I think Kolb will get better, but right now he is leaving everything up in the strikezone.
6) Dick Weeks' defense is going to make me lose an awful lot of hair this year.
Did Sutton say anything funny or dumb tonight?
Fielder should take the day off and lay the wood to the fattest, gnarliest slumpbuster he can find. You know, take one for the team.
I watched the game on MLBTV tonight and got the 620 audio broadcast instead of the TV boobs. It really doesn't get any better than that.
Ithought Capuano looked really sharp tonight.
Oh, and Dick Weeks needs to get in front ball.
Question of the day:
Who is funnier in the batter's box: Vampire Santos or Ben Sheets.
Santos looked as silly as always up there tonight.
slash, totally agree with the capuano statement. I couldn't quite figure out how he let up two runs early from the box score updates (that was the best I could manage for the game) but he seemed to pick it up from the first inning on. And although vampire santos really sucks with a bat, sheets does run like a woman and hits just as poorly. Finally, did anybody else curse aloud in the 2nd when Jenkins struck out and Clark got caught stealing in the same play to end the inning? I didn't need to see the game to know exactly how foolish that play looked.
Just watched an awesome A's/Yankees game. Matsui plays left field like a girl.
I think Sheets looks like more of a boob at the plate than Vamp. I, too, think Capuano looked sharp tonight, though giving up two runs against a team like the Butt Pirates is not too impressive. Sean Casey hit a two-run bomb in the first inning. Can you guess why I had to turn the TV audio off? Sutton and Schroeder have SUCH a hard-on for that fucking loser.
As for Clark getting "caught stealing," don't be fooled. That wasn't on Jenkins and it wasn't even on the same pitch Jenkins struck out on. Strikeouts are going to happen, and that's fine. What isn't fine is Clark. He got thrown out trying to take second on a ball in the dirt. The ball got less than 5 feet away from Doumit, who gunned Clark down by at least 15 feet. So, it was not a planned steal and no one can be blamed except Clark. Considering that Clark cost the Brewers about 20 outs on plays like that last year, it is inexcusable for this kind of nonsense to still be going on.
Oooooo, just got to hear Skip Caray say "LeDee." That is almost as funny as "DeRosa." I LOVE BASEBALL SEASON!
Well, tonight is the first time since 1987 (at least that I can think of) that the Brewers have singlehandedly had the best record in the majors. Let it all soak in...
Prince is on pace to K 567 times this year.
