April 7 Gameday thread

We're already two outs into the second, and Arizona is up 1-0. Bush has not looked particularly strong, with a bb, a hr, and a smash ground rule double. Also, I can already see that the early season home runs from JJ Hardy are gonna cause him to swing for the fences more than fielder the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are getting a whole lot of love right now for winning three straight games. Now, I will admit, they have looked good thus far, but its three freakin games against bad teams (or pitchers . . . Runs Allowed Dickey's knuckleball is gonna need serious work at AAA). I was watching my usual sports journalist shows where they have no idea what they're talking about, especially when it comes to baseball, and they were all talking about the Tigers winning the division over the Sox/Indians. I'm gonna go ahead and say its a little to early to be making predictions like that.

Anyway, its the first game I've watched on tv all year, so I'll probably spend most of this thread responding to myself. I'm aware of that.

Why did you post this when I already had a thread going?

Anyway, Brewers outs on the basepaths count up to 4, as Fielder just got picked off of second with Dave Bush batting and two outs in the inning. So, in total we have Weeks trying to take second and being out by 30 feet, Clark trying to take a base on a ball in the dirt and being out by 25 feet, Hall getting picked off/caught stealing by 30 feet, and Fielder getting picked off of second base in this instance. Wow!

The 0-1 pitch Bush threw to L-Gon was SUCH a strike. It was a perfect curveball. It was called a ball, and LGon hit the subsequent 1-1 pitch 415 feet. Go figure.

Anyone else think that DP looked like Willie Mays Hayes' first swing of the season in Major League. "Oooops."

Bush's curveball is looking sheetsian right now. its a bit more over the plate than i'd like, but it's sure as shit getting the job done.

Tonight's Minor League highlights come from AA Huntsville, where Tim Dillard had a good start and Hernan Iribarren went 4/4. The lowlight, per usual, comes from Mark Rogers, who walks five guys and gave up three runs in three innings at Brevard County.

Correction on my previous report, Iribarren's game came at Brevard County, not Huntsville.

Brewerfan.net has the most throbbing Dave Bush boner I have ever witnessed out of Brewer fans. I agree he looked magnificent tonight, but it was one fucking start. They're starting to sound like Cubs fans. See how he adjusts when scouting reports catch up with him. if he keeps this up for two months this year, expect a drop off for the next two months or so. August and September should be telling for Dave Bush's real worth.

I'm just watching the archived game this morning (saturday). Dave Bush looked shakey at first, but that curve has some bite! Remember, the Bub, this guy is a fifth starter. Can you remember a Brewers fifth starter with Bush's "stuff"? After one game watching him, I can most confidently say no.

As far as Hardy and the over-swinging, that has got to stop. It is a sweet lookin' swing though.

These Diamonbacks announcers are pretty funny about the Sexson trade. They mentioned Capuano as Sunday's starter. Announcer 1: "On Sunday, we'll see Chris Capuano, a former Diamondback". Announcer 2: "Yup, former Diamondback". This is followed by about 10 seconds of on air silence. I'd still be embarassed for my team's front office too.

Turnbow extended his major league record by recording saves in the first four games of the season.

I hope he's ready for an extended stay on the DL.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Yost would use Kolb if Turnbow actually got hurt?

$lash, don't get me wrong. I'm very excited about Bush and the major discrepancy between him and only handful of 5th starters in the majors, let alone the Brewer's fifth starters last year. I'm just saying they're talking about him like he's the second coming, and he hasn't made that many starts at the major league level (40 ish maybe?). I'd like to exhibit a little more cautious optimism than some of my fellow Brewers fans.
